The world has so many talented cricketers. They all excite us with their talent and playing styles. The ICC ranking gives us an idea of the current form of each player and how they have performed recently. Of course, all players have ups and downs in form.

ICC or the International Cricket Council publishes ICC team rankings and player rankings regularly for ODI games, test matches, and T20 internationals. Since March 2021, the player rankings for men are published every Wednesday for all three formats, and the ICC ranking for women is published each Tuesday. The ICC team ranking is published after the completion of the series, whether ODI, test matches, or T20. The ICC cricket rankings for players and teams are calculated based on an algorithm. The process has no human intervention.

FAQ

How to Calculate ICC Player Rankings?

An advanced algorithm calculates the player rankings. A Points Base System is used. Each player is rated on a 0-1000 scale. The points increase if the performance of a player has improved over the last year. It goes down if the performance has gone down and so do the ranking points. The algorithm also accounts for wickets taken and runs scored in critical conditions. This means a player will get additional points if the person performs well in critical game conditions.

How Does ICC Rankings Work?

Many things are considered while calculating the ICC test ranking, ICC ODI ranking, and ICC T20 ranking:

  • Quality of the opposition: A batter will get more points for performing against higher-ranked bowlers.

  • The match results: More points when the team wins.

  • Playing conditions: More points if the batter scores a higher percentage of runs compared to the team score.

A player will lose points when he or she misses games.

When Will the ICC Rankings Be Updated?

The International Cricket Council updates the women’s ranking every Tuesday and the men’s ranking on Wednesday. For team events, the rankings are published after the completion of the series.
